Neuropsychological Assessment

If you are struggling with difficulties in attention, memory, concentration, or organization — or if previous assessments have not produced clear answers — a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment can provide the clarity you need to move forward.

I offer neuropsychological and clinical assessments for adults and older teens (16+), with particular expertise in ADHD, OCD, complex psychiatric presentations, and cases where the clinical picture is unclear or previous diagnoses are in question. I work in person in Austin, TX, and via telehealth across Texas and Florida.

What Is Neuropsychological Assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment goes beyond a standard clinical evaluation. It integrates a comprehensive clinical interview with research-based cognitive testing — covering attention, memory, executive function, and processing speed — to build a complete, detailed picture of how your mind is functioning and what may be driving your difficulties.

This level of detail matters because the same symptom can have very different causes. Difficulty concentrating, for example, may reflect ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, a neurological condition, medication effects, or a combination of factors. A neuropsychological assessment is designed to untangle these possibilities and provide clear, targeted recommendations based on what is actually driving your difficulties.

My assessments also include a clinical evaluation component — not just cognitive testing, but a careful diagnostic formulation that integrates cognitive and clinical findings into a coherent, actionable report. In addition, every assessment concludes with a comprehensive written report and a dedicated feedback session. The report includes specific, evidence-based recommendations drawn directly from the findings. These recommendations are practical recommendations aimed at helping you address your difficulties and move toward your goals, whether that means starting the right treatment, accessing appropriate support, or finally having a clear answer to a question that has gone unanswered for years.

My Expertise

My approach to assessment is informed by over 20 years of clinical experience and research at the intersection of neuropsychology and clinical psychology. I am an internationally recognized authority on the cognitive neuroscience of mental health conditions — with specific expertise in the neuropsychology of OCD and related disorders, and how conditions such as OCD, ADHD, and anxiety disorders interact with attention, memory, and executive function.

I have published extensively on the neuropsychology of OCD, ADHD, Perfectionism, Misophonia, Tourette's syndrome, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and related conditions — research that directly informs how I approach every assessment I conduct.

I completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for OCD and Related Disorders (CORD) at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, and have published over 70 peer-reviewed articles on OCD, ADHD, neuropsychology, and related conditions. I was recognized by ExpertScape as one of the top two neuropsychologists worldwide based on peer-reviewed research from 2013 to 2023.

This depth of research expertise means I bring a level of precision to assessment that goes beyond standard clinical

practice — particularly in complex or ambiguous cases.

What I Assess

ADHD Assessment & Testing

ADHD is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed conditions in adults. Anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, and sleep disorders can all produce symptoms that closely resemble ADHD — including concentration difficulties, disorganization, and difficulty following through. My research has focused specifically on this diagnostic challenge, including published work on how OCD and anxiety symptoms are frequently mistaken for ADHD. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment identifies whether symptoms reflect ADHD alone, another condition, or both — with direct implications for treatment.

OCD-Related Diagnostic Clarification

OCD frequently co-occurs with ADHD, anxiety disorders, and depression, and is often misdiagnosed or missed entirely. I have specific research and clinical expertise in OCD-ADHD comorbidity and differential diagnosis — including published international clinical guidelines on this topic. For individuals with complex presentations involving OCD, I provide careful diagnostic clarification that most clinicians are not equipped to offer.

Complex Psychiatric Presentations

Some cases do not fit neatly into a single diagnostic category — or involve multiple overlapping conditions where the clinical picture is unclear. I have extensive experience with complex presentations involving co-occurring conditions, unusual symptom profiles, and cases where previous assessments were inconclusive.

Clinical Assessment

Not every situation requires a full neuropsychological battery. I also offer focused clinical assessments for adults and older teens — structured diagnostic evaluations to clarify a diagnosis, answer a specific clinical question, or provide recommendations for treatment.

Second Opinion Consultations

If you have received a diagnosis you are uncertain about, or if previous assessment results have not led to effective treatment, a second opinion consultation can provide an independent, research-informed review of your situation. This may include a full re-evaluation or a focused review of existing results with recommendations.

What The Process Looks Like

Every assessment begins with you providing background information about yourself and completing several self-report questionnaires. Based on this information, I design the assessment to address your particular situation rather than following a fixed protocol.

The evaluation itself includes an in-depth clinical interview, followed by a series of standardized cognitive tests. Depending on the complexity of the case, testing typically takes between 4 and 6 hours.

Following the evaluation, I provide a formal written report and a dedicated feedback session in which I walk you through the findings, explain what they mean, and discuss recommendations in plain language. If further assessment or treatment is indicated, I provide clear guidance on next steps.

Who Is This For

This service is appropriate for adults and older teens (16+) who:

  • Have been struggling with attention, concentration, memory, or executive function and want to understand why.

  • Have received a diagnosis of ADHD, OCD, or another condition and are uncertain whether it is accurate.

  • Have complex or overlapping symptoms that have not responded to previous treatment.

  • Want a second opinion on a previous assessment or diagnosis.

  • Need a comprehensive evaluation to inform treatment planning, academic accommodations, or workplace support.

  • Are looking for assessment that is research-informed, thorough, and directly connected to practical recommendations.

In Person & Telehealth

I offer neuropsychological and clinical assessment in person in Austin, TX, as well as via telehealth throughout Texas and Florida. Research supports the reliability and validity of remote neuropsychological assessment when conducted using appropriate tools and protocols — and I use validated, research-based remote assessment instruments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a neuropsychological assessment the same as psychological testing? Not exactly. Psychological testing typically focuses on clinical diagnosis — assessing symptoms, personality, or emotional functioning. Neuropsychological assessment adds a systematic evaluation of cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and executive function, and integrates these findings with the clinical picture. The result is a more comprehensive and precise picture of how both mind and brain are functioning together.

Do I need a referral to book an assessment? No referral is needed. You can contact me directly to discuss whether an assessment is appropriate for your situation.

How long does an assessment take? Depending on the complexity of the case and the questions being addressed, the evaluation typically takes between 4 and 6 hours of testing time. This is usually completed in one session, followed by a separate feedback session.

Will I receive a written report? Yes. Every assessment includes a comprehensive written report covering findings, diagnostic impressions, and specific recommendations. The report is written to be clinically useful — not just descriptive — and is accompanied by a dedicated feedback session.

Do you accept insurance? I do not accept insurance at this time. As an out-of-network provider, I can provide a detailed statement you can submit for potential partial or full reimbursement depending on your plan.

If you are looking for a comprehensive, research-informed neuropsychological assessment in Austin, TX — or via telehealth anywhere in Texas or Florida — I would be glad to hear from you.
